BASIC BABY SWEATER IN SNEFNUG is a good basic sweater and a really good choice for a beginners project, as the pattern only consists of knit and purl. The sweater is knit in the round from the bottom and up. The sleeves are knit in the round on double pointed needles and are joined with the body at the yoke.
As the stitch pattern is worked as 4 rounds of alternately knit and purl, it will pull together vertically, and it is recommended to knit a little swatch, wash it, and let it dry flat, to see if the gauge is correct.
The sweater has raglan shaping and is worked in the round, which means that there is almost no finishing work at the end.

Suggested needle size: 6 mm circular needle (40 and 60 cm) for the body, yoke and neckband, and 6 mm double pointed needles for the sleeves.
Gauge: 14 sts x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch on a 6 mm needle.
